My name is Roman Gutyrya.
I am a visual artist & creative entrepreneur.
In 2016, I founded muze to bring the Vancouverites an original approach to personalizing their homes with custom wall treatments and site specific art.
Our story
inspiration is in the name
In retrospect, the story of muze began with a painting start-up I built from the ground up & ran for two years as a senior university student. Besides allowing me to pay off my school debt upon graduation, this formative experience was like catching an entrepreneurial bug for life.
Around that time, I moved in together with my future wife into our first place - a shoebox-sized studio apartment. That was when I discovered the joy & transformative power of decorating. But more importantly, as I was refreshing our new place with a coat of paint, I had an epiphany.
I realized that interior painting had a lot of room for creativity as a decorating method. Somehow this realization unlocked a flow of creative ideas from creative use of colour in decorating to fusing interior design and art.
These ideas inspired me to dream.
Although I come from a lineage of artisans and a family of two accomplished fine artists and sculptors - my dad and my uncle - I didn’t think about my artistic DNA before that moment.
My Bcomm landed me several corporate gigs. After graduating, I did business analytics and merchandise planning for two Fortune 500 retailers in Toronto. One morning I woke up with a burning desire to quit my day job and follow my heart to find my true calling in life.
And five years ago, I did just that.
The idea of introducing creativity to interior painting inspired me to transform my life from a successful career in corporate retail into my dream life of an artist, designer & creative entrepreneur - my true calling.
That’s why I like to say that inspiration is in our name.
