We love traditional interiors with playful eclectic vibe. They pay homage to the past yet strive to be present in the current moment. Typically, the traditional elements manifest in furniture, ornate picture frames, artworks depicting realistic landscapes, still life or portraits. Modern vibes show up in paired down walls, minimalistic, mostly white, colour palettes, and lack of other elements that like to monopolize the space. One such example is heavy window treatments. Modern is synonymous with streamlined. Traditional penchant for collections of bric-a-brac has no place in the modern space. Other things that set them apart is furniture and object placement. Traditional likes symmetry whereas eclectic likes freedom and dislikes rigidity in object placement.
We love this interior. It has a cool vibe and distinct character. It tastefully combines traditional and modern, western and eastern, colourful and monochrome. The main thing it shies away from is engaging walls in the overall scheme. This is what jumped out at us and made us wonder how engaging the walls could impact this space.
But first, lets talk a little bit about why this might be the case.
1. walls play a background role to offset the variety of everything else that's going on visually in the space so as to prevent overcrowding and eye fatigue
2. white background is perceived to be ideal for showcasing objects like art and furniture against them due to high contrast
3. white is one of most prominent elements of modern aesthetic and as such is used by default to signify this style
